Float fishing for carp

Carp fishing with a float, is a classic way of fishing for carp. It is no coincidence that this tactic is still extremely popular among carp anglers! Float fishing is active fishing with minimal equipment that allows you to quickly operate different fishing spots.

Float rods for carp

The best rod you can use for float fishing for carp is obviously the float rod. These rods feature a parabolic action, which means they bend very well. This is perfect for tracking tricky carp escapes. A pen rod with a length between 3.30 and 4.00 meters is more than sufficient in most situations. A longer rod is especially useful if you want to fish through vegetation.

Float fishing reel

For fishing with a float on carp, a reel of the 2500-5000 class is sufficient, and the most important thing is that the drag works well. A nylon main line with a thickness between 22/00 and 30/00 is placed on the spool. The thickness of the line depends on the fishing spot. When fishing over an area with a lot of snags, choose a thicker main line. Nylon is chosen because this line is more elastic, which ensures that you can handle stronger fish well.

Float fishing mount

The mount for float fishing is quite simple. The only things needed are: a float, caps, spools and a size 6 to 10 carp hook. Make sure the float is weighted so that only the tip remains above the water level and the the trigger is positioned on the bottom. The latter is important, because carp like to feed on the bottom.

Bait and groundbait for float fishing

It is possible to use various baits. Examples include corn, worms, maggots, pellets or even mini-boiles. Different types of groundbait are used for feeding, such as particles, corn, pellets or crumbled boilies.
