The most commonly used reel is probably the spinning reel. This spinning reel is meant to be used in combination with a spinning rod. These sets are specially designed for lure fishing. This is an active fishing style in which you cast and retrieve over and over again. An ideal spinning reel is therefore easy to use – not too big and is light in weight. Because you will be holding the reel and rod all day, you want to have a nice, light set in your hands. This ensures a lot more fun during your session on the waterfront.

Spinning reel 2500

When choosing a spinning reel you need to look at the size of the reel. The spools are often made in the following sizes: 1000, 2500, 4000, 5000, 6000 and bigger, where 1000 is the smallest size and this goes up to huge spools in size 12000 – almost every brand works this way. Of course, there are exceptions and some brands even offer very small reels in size 500.

For fishing with small, light lures, choose a reel in size 1000. If you fish with an average sized lure, you will need a 2500 model. If you fish big lures, use a reel in size 4000 or 5000. Many bigger spinning reels are actually not used for lure fishing.

Pike spinner

Because lure fishing for pike is very common, spinning reels are mostly used for this purpose. If you fish with lures for perch, zander, bass or trout, you should use a spinning reel. Even when fishing for catfish with lures, spinning reels are used. Of course, these are much bigger, stronger and heavier than the average reel for pike fishing. A spinning reel is best fitted with a braided line. Because this line has no stretch, it is ideal for lure fishing.
