The hook is probably the most important part of your angling set-up. The hook must be strong and sharp, otherwise you simply won't catch anything. Hooks in today’s fishing market have become better, sharper and stronger, and this has really been a development in the angling world. Nowadays, hooks from almost every brand are perfectly suitable, you can't make a wrong choice anymore and we dare to put a bag of every brand in our suitcase. Of course, it is important to choose the right hook for the right discipline. It's not for nothing that there are special hooks for carp fishing on the market and also special hooks for under lures.
Hooks are available in different sizes. The size of these hooks often causes confusion among anglers. As a layman it is almost impossible to estimate which hook size you need. Hook sizes work as follows: the larger the number of the hook size, the smaller the hook. So, a hook size 22 is very small, while a hook size 4 is reasonably large. This continues until hook size 1, which is a fairly large hook. If even larger hook sizes are involved, these are designated as 1/0, a little larger is 2/0, a little larger again is 3/0, and so on. A clear division is for example as follows, where we look at hook sizes from small to large: 22, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 ,8 ,6 ,4 ,2 ,1 , 1/0, 2/0, 3/0.
Perhaps one of the best known brands in the world of fishing hooks is Gamakatsu. This Japanese brand has been a market leader in hooks for fishing for many years. Gamakatsu stands for quality and you will notice that right away when you fish with these hooks. The hooks are made from extremely strong steel, are razor-sharp and are available in all varieties. These include hooks with or without barb, complete leaders, trebles for predatory fishing and even huge circle hooks for big game fishing.
